Scope and content: Civil and criminal case files intermixed, from the city of Independence. These can include inventories, pleadings, summonses, subpoenas, motions, affidavits, court orders, instructions to juries, jury verdicts, journal entries, and other original instruments. All of these documents were usually filed in a large cardboard enclosure known as a "jacket," which was labeled on the spine or front with the case number and plaintiff/defendant, then filed in sequential order. After 1903 the criminal and civil case files were divided out; these records can be found in series 59572 and 59571, respectively.
