Topeka - National Register Workshop

Join us for the National Register workshop Tuesday, October 11, 2022. The workshop is for anyone working with (for the first time, or experienced) a National Register of Historic Places or Register of Historic Kansas Places nomination. Two different sessions will be offered—a morning session and afternoon session. We welcome members of the public and professionals. The sessions are free and offered via Zoom hosted by the Kansas Historical Society.

8:30 a.m. Morning session:

  • Fundamentals of the National Register program
  • Surveying historic properties
  • How to write a nomination from scratch
  • Character-defining features

1 p.m. Afternoon session:

  • Discussion on nomination boundaries
  • Properties less than 50 years old
  • Thematic nominations
  • Periods of significance
