Daniel Robert Glickman
Politician. Democrat. Born: November 24, 1944, Wichita, Kansas. Served in U.S. House of Representatives, 4th District: January 3, 1977, to January 3, 1995.
A native Kansan, born in Wichita on November 24, 1944, Dan Glickman graduated from Wichita's Southeast High School in 1962 and from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, with a B.A. in1966. He earned a law degree from George Washington University in 1969 and entered private practice back in Wichita. He served as a member of the local school board (1973-1976) and was elected to the first of nine terms in the U.S. Congress in November 1976 (served, January 3, 1977-January 3, 1995). Glickman served on the House Agriculture Committee, chaired the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence during the One Hundred Third Congress, and was one of the managers appointed by the House of Representatives in 1986 to conduct the impeachment proceedings against Harry E. Claiborne, judge of the United States District Court for Nevada. After an unsuccessful bid for reelection in 1994, Glickman accepted President Bill Clinton's appointment to the office of Secretary of Agriculture, a position he held from March 1995 until the end of the Clinton administration in January 2001. From August 2002 to August 2004, the former Kansas congressman directed the Institute of Politics at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government, and then became president and CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America, Inc.
