Dorothy Canfield Fisher

Writer. Born 1879. Died 1958.

Fisher was born in Lawrence while her father was a professor at the University of Kansas.  She attended the University of Paris and Columbia University in New York City.  She then began a writing career that produced a long list of books for children and adults.  Some of her novels were best sellers.  In 1957 the Dorothy Canfield Fisher Children’s Book Award was established in Vermont.
