Janice Meyers

Politician. Republican. Born: July 20, 1928, Lincoln, Nebraska. Died: June 21, 2019. Served in U.S. House of Representatives, 3rd District: January 3, 1985, to January 3, 1997.

Jan MeyersBorn July 20, 1928, in Lincoln, Nebraska, Jan Meyers attended the public schools of Superior before entering William Woods College in Fulton, Missouri, and then graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, in 1951. She was an advertising and public relations assistant for a radio station in Omaha and a department store in Lincoln from 1951-1954. She served as city councilwoman in Overland Park, Kansas, from 1967-1972 (president of the council the last two years) and then for 12 years in the Kansas state senate (1972-1984), before her election to the 99th Congress in 1984. Representative Meyers chaired the Committee on Small Business during the 104th Congress. She was reelected five times but chose not to seek reelection in 1998.

Meyers passed away on June 21, 2019.
