Tim Huelskamp

Born November 11, 1968, in Fowler, Kansas, Tim Huelskamp grew up on the family farm his grandparents originally settled in 1926. As a youth he was involved in 4-H and Future Farmers of America, and named a Farm Bureau Youth Leader. He attended seminary, before transferring to the College of Santa Fe where he received a bachelor’s degree in social science education in 1991. He received a doctorate in political science and agricultural policy from American University in 1995. He has served as a teacher and a legislative analyst in New Mexico. He represented the 38th Kansas State Senate District from 1997 to 2011. In November 2011 he defeated Alan Jilka, Democrat, and Jack. W. Warner, Libertarian, to be elected to serve Kansas' first congressional district.
