Barbara Morris served as a member of the attorney general's Commission on Crime and Violence Prevention. She was treasurer of Native Sons and Daughters of Kansas. She was secretary of the First Congressional District, a board member of the Wheat Bowl Foundation, and member of Kansas Legislative Spouses.

She and her husband, Stephen Morris, manage a farming operation, consisting of wheat and grain sorghum, in Hugoton. They have three daughters and seven grandchildren.

Morris was first elected to the Kansas Historical Foundation Board of Directors in 2002. She was elected to the executive committee, and served as president in 2012.
