C. B. Schmidt

- Settled in Kansas in 1868 as a grocer
- Served as land agent for the Santa Fe railway
- Influenced thousands of German Mennonites living in Russia to settle in Kansas in 1870s
- These Russian German families eventually populated central and western portions of the state
