The online dome tour begins on fifth floor near the cage elevator, 296 steps to the top.

Tours gather at this door to begin the 296 steps to the top of the dome.
This area was originally an open-air light well designed to help ventilate the building. In 1970 air conditioning was installed so the light wells were no longer needed. In 2006 this stairway replaced the old attic stairs. The spaces were filled in to accommodate offices.
