Kansas State Capitol - Online Tour - Eisenhower statue

Located on the northwest quadrant of Capitol Square, the statue was dedicated on October 22, 2018.

Dwight D. Eisenhower (1890-1969), born in
Denison, Texas, grew up in Kansas. “The
proudest thing I can claim is that I am from
Abilene,” Eisenhower said. After graduation
from West Point in 1915, he received a
commission in the U.S. Army and served
during World War I, then World War II
as Supreme Commander Allied
Expeditionary Force. Following the
war he served two terms as president,
from 1953-1961.

Jim Brothers (1941-2013) of Lawrence
created the seven-feet high, 600-pound
bronze sculpture, Dwight D. Eisenhower,
depicting the nation’s 34th President of
the United States. Brothers, who was born
in Eureka, was a noted creator of public
art, including work on the National
D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Virginia.
His sculpture of Eisenhower was installed
in the U.S. Capitol’s National Statuary
Hall in 2003.
