Lieutenant Governors
The Kansas Lieutenant Governor is the second-ranking officer of the state executive branch. The offices of governor and lieutenant governor are elected jointly every four years in the midterm year by a plurality of votes. The office is restricted to two consecutive four-year terms beginning on the second Monday of January next after election. Afterward an individual must wait one term before being eligible to run again. Lieutenant governors must be citizens of Kansas, at least 31 years of age and a residence of the United States for 10 years. The provisions are contained in the Kansas Constitution, Article 1, Section 1, which were updated in 1974.
