Contents: Reports that the smallpox was taken into the Indian country by the Steamboat St. Peters last summer. Describes the scene on the boat and the refusal of the Captain to put the sick man ashore at Blacksnake Hills. By the time the boat reached Council Bluffs, the disease had spread. States that vaccination is the only way to protect against the disease, and that much resistance to this method will be encountered, due to superstition.
