Scope and content: Mostly letters received by Governor Crawford, though there may also be proclamations and a few petitions, reports, copies of letters sent, and other types of documents. Subject files include applications for appointment to State or local office, the State seal, bonds, claims, county affairs, criminal matters, correspondence with federal agencies, immigration, Indians, lands, livestock, military affairs, political matters, a memorial to President Abraham Lincoln, Price Raid claims, railroads, drought relief, requests for information, roads, suffrage of women & African Americans, and taxation. The general correspondence subseries, 1865-1868, relates to nonspecific State concerns. The Correspondence with Other States subseries, 1867-1868, pertains to the ratification of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
