In the letter, West also advises that he still needs to go into the county south of Mitchell and North of Lincoln. A letter on February 4, 1878, from T. B. Murdock, informs that S. B. Snow accepted the appointment and is ready to report for duty at any moment. A letter on February 12, 1878, from J. C. McLeary, asks if he should pay the fees for the school lands, as the Register of Lands at Salina requires the money to be tendered before or at the time an application is made.
