Scope and content: The letters in this file are from potential candidates applying for the appointment as Honorary Commissioner from the State of Kansas to the Paris Exposition. A letter on January 3, 1878, from Peter Smith, applies for the position at the Paris Exposition and says that he knows four languages. A letter on May 25, 1878, from J. C. Carpenter, encloses a letter from C. H. Pratt, who requests the Honorary Commission to Paris. A letter on March 19, 1878, from Ira Harris, sends an application on behalf of his brother for the appointment as an Honorary Commissioner to the Paris Exposition. A letter on March 15, 1878, from W. H. Harris applies for the appointment and provides references, who support his application.
