Scope and content: The documents in this file pertain to matters related to the lands of the Normal School in Emporia, Kansas. A letter on February 27, 1878, from H. C. Cross, requests Kansas Governor Anthony?s presence at a Board meeting on Saturday. A letter on February 27, 1878, from J. J. Wright, informs the Governor that the former land agent made a complete disclosure of all land matters related to the Normal School and Salt or State Lands. In the letter, Wright requests Governor Anthony?s presence at a Board meeting that will be held on Saturday, March 2, 1878. A letter on January 28, 1878, states the Normal School at Emporia has certificates dated December 20, 1877, showing specific sections of land purchased. A letter on November 10, 1878, from B. F. Eastman, says he purchased land that belonged to the State Normal School from John W. Berks, Agent for the sale of State Normal School lands, and since the Bancroft affair, the Board decided certain lands need to be sold over which includes the section of the land he purchased. In the letter, Eastman asks for the Governor to interfere in the matter.
