Scope and content: The documents in this file pertain to matters related to Notaries Public in the State of Kansas. This description only covers a few of the documents in this file. A letter in March of 1877, from O. Nevins, states two years ago he applied as Notary Public with Governor Osborn for Graham County and asks about the validity of Notaries appointed for unorganized counties. A letter on December 6, 1877, from W. H. Pilkenton, requests W. H. Leigh be appointed as Notary Public. A letter on October 10, 1877, from E. S. Handy, Clerk of the District Court of Reno County, asks on behalf of a Mr. Yeo, how two other individuals were able to be appointed as Notaries of Public for Pratt, but he was not. A letter on April 20, 1877, from S. S. Sisson to T. H. Cavanaugh in relation to a commission as Notary Public for Sumner County, but would prefer a commission for Harper County.
