Joe Carter
Joe Carter was born March 7, 1960, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Carter played baseball at Wichita State University before leaving his junior year to play in the Major Leagues. He was a 3-time All-American and named the 1981 NCAA Player of the Year. Carter was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 1981 and made his debut in 1983. In 1984 Carter was traded to the Cleveland Indians where he played until 1989. In 1990 he played for the San Diego Padres and from 1991 to 1997 he played for the Toronto Blue Jays. Carter was on the World Series championship team in 1992 and 1993. In 1998 Carter played for the Baltimore Orioles and the San Francisco Giants before retiring. Carter worked as an announcer and commentator following the years after his retirement. He was inducted into the Wichita State University Pizza Hut Shocker Hall of Fame (1988), the Missouri Valley Conference Hall of Fame (1999), Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame (2003), the Kansas Baseball Hall of Fame (2007), and the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame (2000).
