Larry D. Welch
U. S. Air Force General. Born: 1934.
Larry Welch grew up in Liberal and served in Washington as the U. S. Air Force Chief of Staff in the late 1980s. In that position the four-star general commanded all Air Force personnel and was one of the President's top military advisers. Earlier, General Welch commanded the Strategic Air Command which guarded North America against nuclear attack. He was the Native Sons and Daughters of Kansas' Distinguished Kansan of the Year in 1988.
