Russell Stover

Russell and Clara StoverCandy maker. Born: May 6, 1888, Alton, Kansas. Died: May 11, 1954, Miami, Florida.

Born in a sod house in Alton, Russell Stover eventually ended up back in Kansas after some moving about. He was a candy maker when he began to sell Eskimo Pies, which were a big success.

He sold out his company and opened another one which eventually became "Russell Stover Candies." Russell Stover was headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri, and Stover lived in nearby Mission Hills, Kansas.

When he died in 1954 the company was selling about 5,500 tons of yummy stuff a year. The company continues to the delight of all who have a yen for fine chocolate.
