Fort Scott

  • Business name: Clayton Oil
  • Street address: Originally located on U.S. 54 Highway, west of intersection with U.S. 69 Highway. Now believed to be in Fort Scott.
  • Open or closed: Closed
  • History: The building was a filling station owned by Ellsworth Clayton from the 1950s to the 1970s. It was sold to a Fort Scott businessman and moved to an undisclosed location in 2008. This building appears to have been produced by Valentine, however, the model does not appear in any catalogs. It is very similar to other buildings at Holyrood and Salina that may be Valentine diners, but there remains a question as to how these structures fit into the Valentine chronology.
