Kansas Antiquities Commission

This commission is comprised of professional archeologists who review reports and requests as defined by the statute and providing permits for controlled scientific excavation. The statute prohibits uncontrolled excavation or vandalism of archeological sites on state, county, or municipal owned lands.

The executive director of the Kansas Historical Society serves as the chair with the heads of the departments of anthropology of the University of Kansas, Kansas State University, and Wichita State University; and the State Archeologist on the Historical Society's staff who serves as the secretary of the commission. Members of the commission receive no compensation for their services.
